Hugin
A local-first room sensor platform combining presence and environmental sensing in a single device.
One platform.
Multiple sensors.
Hugin is built around an ESP32-C6 and ESPHome, bringing several sensors together in one device. Their data is exposed to Home Assistant, where it can be used for dashboards and automations.
Why I built it.
I wanted a single room sensor that could combine several functions instead of relying on separate devices for each one. I could not find an off-the-shelf multisensor that matched what I had in mind, so I decided to build one myself.
That also means I can choose exactly which sensors to use, keep the system local and change the hardware as the project develops. Along the way, I am learning more about embedded development, sensor integration and hardware prototyping.
From room data
to automation.
Hugin sends presence and environmental data to Home Assistant through ESPHome.
